Hello,

Welcome to the May edition of the Platinum Mix eNewsletter.  Last month we took a look at the exciting world of 3D technology and what it means to marketing and advertising.  This months issue will explore promo-items and the techniques to achieving the best results from your marketing initiative.

Branded giveaways have long been used by marketers to attract potential customers. Products that have a long shelf life will help keep your business in the forefront of a customer's mind. Weeks, months, and even years after a product is purchased or service is performed, promotional items will remind the customer of your brand.

Techniques to Increase the Effectiveness of Your Promotional Marketing

Many small to medium businesses believe that cost-cutting strategies are the most effective at delivering bottom line results. But if we take a look at the other end of the spectrum which involves being proactive – why not focus on increasing the effectiveness of your promotional marketing in order to achieve a greater return on investment.

There are some businesses where it can be hard to stand out from the crowd. If you work in a competitive industry, for example, you may find it hard to keep your brand name firmly at the front of your customers’ minds. One quick and simple way of branding yourself may be to look at using promotional tools as free gifts for your customers.

Choose products that reach the largest amount of people in the least budget. It is generally assumed that if you give a cheap product that people won’t keep it, however the case is thus; if you give a product that is not useful it will get thrown out. The fact is that an everyday product will have a greater opportunity to reinforce your brand with your customer. Try and pick an item that is an every-day necessity like a pen or a mug, but invest in quality so that it will last a number of years.

Focus on the printed message. Product selection is important, but the message is where the marketing begins. Sometimes it is not enough to just put your logo on it. By including a message or a call to action you can run a promotion. If you build a campaign behind your promotional products, it is an effective way of rewarding your customers for their involvement. If you give away 20 items in a targeted promotion that generates 3 quality leads, there is a greater chance of success then if you give away 100 items at random.

Measure the success of your campaign. There are a few simple ways that you can measure a campaign; why not ask people when they enquire how they heard about your company, print a unique phone number or URL so that you can track where the lead was generated from.

At Platinum Mix, we always keep our eyes and ears open to new and exciting marketing techniques, this month we found Dye Sublimation printing.

To come up with the right kind of corporate images for branded merchandise requires an in-depth understanding of the role and importance of branding. When that is combined with creative flair, you end up with branded merchandise that is not only striking, but also in keeping with the image the company wants to project.

But how to make these images compelling? With printing techniques, until now you had to go either the embroidered route, which meant your logo could only appear fairly small, or the silkscreen route, which presented all the old problems of fading, peeling, cracking and discolouration.

Enter dye-sublimation, a printing technique that for many applications is fast overtaking silk screening. Dye-sublimation uses special inks that actually dye the fabric during a heat transfer process where the temperature reaches up to 300 degrees. The result? Colours are infused into the fabric, which makes them vibrant and permanent.

With silk screening, the inks that make up the images are laid upon the fabric which gives it a vinyl feel. With dye-sublimation, the inks become part of the weave of the material, so the fabric feels softer and can also be folded and stored for reuse without the worries of wrinkles. You may think that dye-sublimation would be much more expensive than traditional branding, but it is in fact comparable to other printing techniques, and is much more effective at creating a unique look and feel.
